“Angel From Montgomery”, John Prine’s classic, was made popular by Bonnie Raitt. Eleanor Ellis suggested we play this with the guitar tuned to Drop D.
“Money Makes You Crazy” was written by Jackie Merritt. It appears on “The Flood”. Everyone gets a chance to play percussion on this one.
“Mean Church People” was written by Jackie and appears on our second CD “Done Spoke My Mind”. It continues to be a crowd favorite.
“Grinnin’ in Your Face” was written by Delta blues man Eddie James “Son” House. Resa plays an electrified cigar box strumstick.
M.S.G. received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Veer Magazine in February 2020. The award recognizes our eighteen years (and counting!) as a band and dedication to the acoustic blues tradition.
Resa leads vocal workshops at Augusta Heritage Center’s Blues & Swing Week in WV. We were introduced to each other at this music camp many years ago. Blues Week holds many wonderful memories. Here she performs “Go Down Old Hannah,” a field holler.
The wonderful dancers from Urban Artistry, Inc. interpret this beautifully.
“I Heard The Angels Singing” is a powerful spiritual written by Rev. Gary Davis. Frank Matheis filmed us at the Archie Edwards Blues Heritage Foundation in Riverdale, MD.
This video is misstitled. We actually perform Jackie’s composition “Isabelle” from our first CD “Meet Me In The Middle”. This was filmed at Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion in Bristol, TN.
